Conservation

Hedge and riverbank vegetation cutting and work on trees is often done at the wrong time of the year endangering wildlife species, many of which are already endangered. Some formerly common species are now  rapidly declining due to land maintenance schedules, reduction in habitat, the use of chemical agents, poor water quality, large scale mechanised farming and out-dated gardening methods.
Even small areas can be vastly improved for wildlife by just being aware and resisting the call to 'Keep Britain Tidy'

KEEP BRITAIN WILD instead

Here is a guide to the bird nesting season

be aware that many birds nest on or near the ground, so ground cover is essential for their survival.

Note that dates can vary from year to year depending on weather conditions and climate change. The lists below is for birds seen in our local area during the spring and summer nesting season and does not include winter visitors or birds that are passing through on their way to breeding grounds elsewhere. (* location indicates nesting not observed here yet).
(month+  indicates nesting has been known to extend beyond this date)
