All tools necessary for different tasks are provided. New or replacement tools are usually provided by HDC for us. We are also grateful to Horsham in Bloom for environmental grants for the provision of equipment and we also receive donations from local businesses. These are spent on planting and associated maintenance.

General advice:
(those who would prefer to keep to level paths away from the river banks are very welcome too! Please see the note at the end of this page)
We do not wear Hi-vis clothing along the Riverside. Hi-vis vests are provided for those working along the tarmac cycle /foot path from Hills Farm Lane along the edge of Tanbridge House School grounds up to the A24 in order to remain visible to speeding cyclists ignoring local rules concerning the safety of pedestrians. We do not work on public highways eg roads or in residential areas but we do work along cycle/footpaths which form part of the Riverside Walk. Hi-vis vests are provided for those working on these as well.
We wear ordinary weatherproof clothing and suitable footwear such as slip resistant Wellington boots as it can be very muddy and wet even in summer. Open sandals should not be worn by those working near or on the river banks when sturdy footwear with solid soles must be worn.
Gloves are now provided for those collecting litter but

you may prefer to wear your own gloves which should be strong gardening gloves or strong waterproof gloves. Strong PPE gloves must be worn when working in/near the water or handling sharp or heavy items.
We provide Safety goggles which should be worn by anyone working with all plants likely to have sharp thorns, twigs or branches.

Waders are available when we occasionally find it necessary to haul out objects thrown into the river which are impossible to remove using our specialist tools (only outside the bird nesting season - and only if the river is low).
LIGHT WORK:
Those who would prefer to keep to the level paths and collect litter are very welcome. You will be provided with litter-pickers, gloves and an easy-carry bag.
